1. Origin and Formation:
Natural Diamonds:
Formed in the Earth: Natural diamonds are formed deep within the Earth under extreme pressure and temperature conditions over millions of years. They are mined from the Earth’s crust.
Natural Process: The natural process involves carbon atoms crystallizing under high pressure and temperature, creating the diamond’s structure.
Lab-Grown Diamonds:
Created in a Laboratory: Lab-grown diamonds, also known as synthetic or cultured diamonds, are created in a lab setting using technology that mimics the natural conditions under which diamonds are formed.
Two Main Methods:
High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT): This method mimics the natural process by applying high pressure and temperature to carbon to create diamond crystals.
Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD): This method involves using gases that are broken down into carbon atoms, which then deposit onto a substrate to grow diamond crystals layer by layer.

2. Appearance:
Natural Diamonds:
They may have unique, natural inclusions (also called “blemishes” or “imperfections”), which are often used by gemologists to identify and grade diamonds.
Their color and clarity can vary depending on the mineral inclusions, temperature, and pressure conditions during their formation.
Lab-Grown Diamonds:
They are visually indistinguishable from natural diamonds to the naked eye.
Lab-grown diamonds often have fewer inclusions and can have higher clarity and consistency in color because they are created under more controlled conditions.

3. Cost:
Natural Diamonds:
Typically, natural diamonds are more expensive because they take millions of years to form and require extensive mining processes.
The rarity and demand for natural diamonds contribute to their higher cost.
Lab-Grown Diamonds:
Lab-grown diamonds are generally much more affordable than natural diamonds, often costing 20%–40% less for the same size and quality.
The cost is reduced because the production time is much shorter, and they are created in a controlled environment.
